Four ways a PA can help you to help others

You may not be aware, but World Kindness Day falls this week, reminding us of the importance of extending little gestures of kindness to others. These don’t need to be grand gestures either, simple acts such as smiling to a stranger, giving a compliment or praise to a deserving colleague, taking the time to give advice or mentor someone or giving someone a lift to their destination, can all make a massive difference to the lives of others, brightening their day and motivating them to be kind to others. As the giver, you’ll notice a host of benefits from these small acts of kindness too, as kindness helps develop better relationships, boost health, reduce negative emotions and improve performance.

Therefore, by honouring the World Kindness Day, you can make the world a better place for others and ignite positive emotions within yourself. A virtual PA can help you to give back to society and increase your capacity for small kindnesses in the following ways:

  1. Freeing up your time for community initiatives

A virtual PA can help you plan your schedule to ensure that you (and your staff) have some free
time to participate in community and charitable initiatives. Having somebody else doing all of your time consuming admin, report writing and follow up calls and emails, will ensure that you have
enough time to take part in activities and events. As the UAE Year of Giving nears its close, it’s time to take stock and think about what you have done to contribute over the last 12 months, and what more could you be doing.

  1. Researching and planning your activities and initiatives

If you run a business, you probably have a busy calendar of meetings, events and activities, particularly at this time of year. A PA can help by researching local charities and community groups that you could support and reaching out to them initially for all the information. They can compile a calendar of upcoming events that you could support and volunteering opportunities you could take part in. If they are managing your schedule, they will be able to make sure this all fits with your professional and personal commitments.

  1. Back office support for mentorship programmes

As a thought leader, you might like to give back by supporting others in your field on their career path. Your PA can research to find groups or individuals that need mentorship in your industry, and networking events taking place near you where you can share your experience with others and learn from them too. If you embark on a mentorship programme, a PA can hep by typing up minutes from meetings, scheduling each meeting and sending confirmation emails to the mentee, as well as regular tips, advice and news.

  1. Saying thank you and well done on your behalf

When things are hectic, we rarely take the time to say thank you or well done – we’re always keen to look at issues, but less quick to celebrate our successes. You might decide as a kindness initiative to send out some appreciation cards, whether these be to your colleagues, partners, sponsors, or long standing clients. A PA can make all the arrangements for this, they can brief and review designs, write messages on your behalf and arrange delivery. With this kind of support, you would be able to extend the reach of your act to kindness to many more people.

We appreciate that these acts may seem like trivial initiatives that come bottom place to increasing the bottom line and growing sales and business leads, but don’t forget that a little act of kindness goes a long way. Still not convinced? Don’t just take our word for it, clinical studies have shown that acts of kindness have a great impact on health and wellbeing. Not just your own, but the lives of others that you inspire and motivate to be kind to others. Go on, spread a little kindness this week and see what happens!
